Much ado about 'thirtysomething' DVD

"Thirtysomething." So does " Mad Men ." "Six Feet Under." "Gilmore Girls." Even " Sex and the Big apple ."

That's quite an impact for a four-flavour drama about people in their 30s sitting around talking, sharing their struggles to be compelling parents, spouses, friends, moneymakers, idealists. Name an quality of daily life, and the show's two substance married couples and three only friends got introspective over it. Forsaking free TV tradition, they bared their souls to viewers, who often embraced this informal portrayal of their own angst (or rolled their eyes at its "me decade" self-absorption).

So ABC didn't inaugurate just a series back in 1987, it launched a half-dozen TV revolutions. Support arrives this week when the first age of "thirtysomething" finally hits DVD. Boutique distributor Roar! Factory has packed the six-disc set with perk commentaries, making-of featurettes and - unaffectedly - lots of introspective reflections from the people who made TV background without really trying to.
